Directions

  • Hwy 2 west from Winnipeg, south on Hwy 10 to Boissevain.  It’s about 3 hours from Winnipeg.
  • Continue South on #10 until you see the Bower Lake sign on the right just a few km north of the border. It’s not easy to see so keep your eyes open. Turn right at the sign. If you see the Adam Lake sign, you have gone too far.
  • Cell phone coverage is good but unfortunately when on Bower, often it is the Verizon signal from USA resulting in roaming charges. These can usually reversed but save the hassle by turning roaming off.

Accommodation

  • Canadian Wilderness Inn in Boissevain, 305 Mountain St
  • To book reservations you'll need to call (204) 534-7155.  Check the website for styles of room  https://www.canadianwildernessinn.com/boissevain
  • Hotel coffee provided in the rooms, microwaves and small fridges in rooms.
  • BBQs are provided and are often the gathering spot for supper and chatter.
  • There are a few restaurants in town but check the hours of operation.  The local Coop store is large with takeout items.
  • There is camping nearby at William Lake and Adam Lake but this is only available May long weekend or later.

Boating Equipment needed

  • This is a smaller lake that is round.  The primary fishing areas are the bays and reed shorelines. High winds from the east significantly reduces the fishing area.  A very strong south wind may make launching challenging.
  • Gas motors are allowed.
  • Great for float tubing and small watercraft.
  • Boat launch is very good with bathrooms at the launch.

What to bring

  • Extra breakfast food if a muffin and yogurt is not enough for you
  • Stuff for lunches (refrigerator in the room).
  • Drinks for discreet evening socializing
Need a 2024 Provincial Park Pass and fishing license as of May 1 2024.

Fishing Info

  • Bower known for its chunky rainbows and nice sized browns.
  • Gear-6 to 8 weight rods are perfect
  • In early May there is often a chironomid hatch late morning/early afternoon in shallower water or reedy bays.
  • Flies-woolly buggers, muddlers, DDH leeches, egg sucking leeches have all worked well in the past
  • Conservation office in Boissevain (Turn in Poachers program) 1-800-782-0076
